#GivingTuesday: Favorite Charities of Tenable EmployeesTeam TenableTue, 11/30/2021 - 08:55

This year for #GivingTuesday, we highlight some of the causes that Tenable employees have championed this year and invite you to do the same.

Tenable CARES is our charitable giving, company matching and volunteerism program. Employees can choose to support charitable organizations that are important to them — whether that's through giving, volunteer day hours, or other charitable and awareness activities towards doing good.

Below you can read about some of the charities that Tenable employees have chosen to support — including by sweating it out on a bike ride or playing football against Tenable executives — and how they show they care.

Greg Garreau, Customer Success Manager

“I vow to shave my beard off if I reach my goal of 2000 euros raised for prostate cancer research by the end of November. My beard actually started in 2012 following a Movember moustache, so I'm going full circle with this small sacrifice for this year's fundraising. I'm also organizing and will host a quiz, a game of bingo and other competitions for the Dublin site to gather donations for all the Tenable Ireland Mo Bros and Mo Sisters before we close the month.

"I have seven-year-old twins who have never seen my face, though my wife would prefer that I keep my beard. Cancer and mental health for men are obviously very serious matters with very destructive consequences for the individuals who are affected and for those around them. My goal is to talk about it, and get others to think about it, all whilst trying to raise a few quid to contribute to research and care and also try and have a laugh along the way.”

“I heard about Make-A-Wish at my old job through a colleague who was leading the corporate social responsibility initiatives. I went to volunteer at a pediatric cancer ward in a children's hospital and my job was to hand over gifts to nine kids in the oncology ward. That was a moving experience. The kids asked for simple things, like dolls and toys. A teenager asked for a cell phone. It was an experience I'll never forget.

"To me, it’s very important to know that what you are giving to charity is actually reaching the right recipient. At Make-A-Wish, that’s the best part. Each child makes a wish, you collect that wish, and fulfill it by giving that wish in the form of a toy or an experience.

"I want to say thank you to all my Tenable India buddies over the last three years who've helped me and supported this wholeheartedly.”

Megan Maguire, Enterprise Territory Manager

“The Peloton Charity Ride Challenge has been a great way to connect with Tenable colleagues across the organization. The group consists of Tenable employees who all have a shared interest in the Peloton bike. We use the hashtag #Tenable to find one another on the bike’s app for the group’s weekly and monthly team rides. We’ve all committed to a certain number of individual rides and to collectively finishing 416 rides in November.

"If and when we do reach that goal, Tenable will contribute a donation to the CURE Childhood Cancer Association. CURE focuses on improving the lives of families coping with childhood cancers and blood disorders. Their mission is to provide emotional, financial, and social support for families, as well as funds for research. Riding to support CURE has given me extra motivation to do my part to hit our goal. I believe that coming together to achieve this goal of fundraising and fitness embodies the One Tenable mentality.”

“The Tenable Turkey Bowl is an organized football tournament that is held annually near the Columbia, MD, HQ with several teams from within Tenable departments. This is the fourth year and it keeps growing, this year there were over 100 people. Even executives, like CEO Amit Yoran and COO Mark Thurmond, attended. My team, the support and operations team, won the championship this year.

"We all brought diapers and blankets to donate to those in need, including families and refugees. The donations are being distributed in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia area. We collected 3,000 diapers and 10 blankets to benefit our local community. It builds that community feeling. It was motivational.”

Consider exploring drives for food, clothing, or other essential items in your local area.
